Pharos project

There is already a wealth of knowledge and data on Mediterranean Small Islands, but much of this held at disperate sources and can be difficult to obtain. The aim of the Pharos project is thus to collect and disseminate all the existing data. Administrators, scientists, and member of the publics from all walks of life will be able to access and use these data for further the unique aim : protection of the common mediterranean heritage.
Besides the production of tools and resources to imform the general public, the PIM Initiative will create guidelines and outreach to facilitate improved management of mediterranean small islands (mission report, books, exhibitions, leaflets etc.). A database allows on-line access to a synthesis of the main characteristics of the 1000 small islands in the western basin of the Mediterranean Sea, and a virtual library provides relavent documents to aid species conservation and the integrated managament the small island ecosystems.  

In brief, a simple objective : communicate, inform and transfer information on the small islands of the Mediterranean Sea.
